GOODBYE CAMP GREEN LAKE(ANALYSIS)

Well, finally I’ve finished the book. Louis Sachar made an impressive job. In my opinion what he did best is making the connections between the characters. The events which Elya,Stanley’s great-great-grandfather, lived through effected the next fourth generation. The people’s lifes can cross in different times and places. What could be happen if Elya didn’t come to the USA or Kate Barlow didn’t become a criminal. It is fascinating how a decision or a move can change a lot people’s life. We can try to find explanations, but I would like to call it “destiny”. I think the writer’s first message is, people don’t know what they are gonna through but it will be happen sooner or later, if it is written. We can’t just say those events are coincidence. The life is full of coincidences, but this is destiny. Second message is that people can’t avoid or escape their pasts. What happened before us, what our family did, effect us. It follows us and we can always find some signs from it. In the book, Stanley find some signs from his great-great-grandfather’s and great-grandfather’s life. He met Zero the great-great-great grandson of Madame Zeroni who was Elya’s friend. Then he found a place(Big Thumb), where saved his great-grandfather’s life. The Warden dedicated her entire life to finish the job which her grandparents started. This is a great balance of the life and the writer edited it with a good fiction.

LOOKING BACK

I've almost come throuhg to the end of the book and all questinons I had were answered. I'm gonna summarise shortly what happened and how did the character's lifes changed. First, I want to begin with the Warden. She was just so close to achieve the purpose that she has waited so long, but her life hit bottom. She is not just gonna lose the Kate Barlow's loot, she is also gonna lose her job and Camp Green Lake. After the investigation, everything she had donewill come out.

The winners are surely Stanley and Zero. Both of them are going to start a new life in good conditions. In the beginning they are just bad boys and they didn't do anything right in their lifes. As the time passed, after digging plenty of holes their personalities develops. They became best friends and they have done what a true friend should have done. Zero defended Stanley while he had a fight with Zigzag. Stanley jeopardized himself for Zero(steal the water truck, escape for find him). Everyone else accepted their situations at Camp Green Lake. Because of that they watched Stanley and Zero leaving, while they stucked in there. Stanley and Zero should thank Ms Morengo. She helped them to get a fresh start. On the other side of the book, unfortunatelly there was a bad ending. Onion Sam was killed by Trout Walker and after that Kate Barlow became an outlaw. She died because of a bit of a lizard. She didn't deserve to die like that, in the middle of nothingness, all alone.

Now there are a few pages left and I think it will be a road map for Stanley for rest of his life. Hopefully he will use the chances front him.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS- STANLEY YELNATS a.k.a "CAVEMAN"

When we just describe our main character Stanley with his outfit, we can say his nickname fit as well as to his look. He is very big, also overweight and I think the gang has right to give him such a nickname. But after reading the full story between Stanley and the school's bully Derrick Dunne, it appears the gang needs to think again. Actually I couldn't believe and find it ridicolous. Thanks to Zigzag I have no doubts. Stanley is just a coward kid. Until this time of his life he hided behind the curse(!) of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. He always chose the easy way-run away. But I think the fight between him and Zigzag helped him in a different way. In the end of this fight his closest friend in the camp-Zero-ran away, he realised that it is time to step forward, take the responsibilities everything ha had done and save his friend. Steal the water truck, try to drive it although he didn't know how and run away to find and save his friend from the big Camp Green Lake without any idea where Zero is, well it must take a lot of courage. Maybe we got to change his nickname as "Braveman". It is a very big improvement in his character. After his effort to convince attorney general for releasing of Zero Stanley become my one of the favourite character of the novel. I hope he can do better things with his new life. Go Stanley Go!

AFTER RUNAWAY FROM CAMP GREEN LAKE (DEVELOPMENT)

After the fight between Zigzag and Stanley, Zero hit Mr. Pendanski with a shovel and ran away. With a hope to find and save his friend from this endless desert, Stanley tried to stole the water truck and ran away. But he drove the truck in a hole and he finds himself in the big Green Lake area without any water or anyone to support him. I am pretty sure that he willf ind Zero and both of them will survive. It seems that Stanley tries to find Big Thumb. Thanks to this place Stanley's great-grandfather survived. Appearently it is their only hope.

Let's say Stanley finds first Zero and Big Thumb. I guess they'll find some water there, but how long will it be enough. Eventually they got to back to camp, but they won't be welcomed friendly. They pissed off the Warden and they must be punished. Maybe the Warden scratch their faces with her nails. Stanley is familiar to the pain of this scratch. They are gonna need some help and I think they will get some. Perhaps from the gang, maybe someone else. I think if they come back to camp, it won't be just for water and food. Stanley is the only one who knows where the golden tube came from. They will try to find the entire loot, that means they need to di another hole, maybe the last hole ever. But one by one. Stanley's mission should him choose to accept is find Zero, then big Thumb and a way out of Camp Green Lake.
The force will be with you Stanley.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS- MISS KATHERINE BARLOW a.k.a KISSIN KATE BARLOW

Finally I learnt the background of the mysterious character. Once upon a time Kissin Kate Barlow was a very nice person and the teacher of the school at Green Lake Town. The question here is how did she change like this. After her lover's-Onion Sam- death she killed the sheriff and became a criminal. A hundred and ten years ago the laws were very different from today. A white wasn't allow to have a relationship with a black or Negro like Sam. She needed to control her fellings to him, but she messed things up and the town punished them because of this forbidden love. She must be full of revenge. She startes with the sheriff, who didn't do anyhing to stop the events. After she killed him, she gave him the kiss, he wants before. Now this kiss became her signature. I think she killed him because she wants revenge and she thouhgt she had nothing to lose. Actually she had right. The school was burnt, Sam was gone too. But killing someone in cold blood, that's a sign of the cruelty. I didn't give a chance that she could be able to do this. After this murder she didn't stop.
"For the next twenty years Kissin' Kate Barlow was one of the most feared outlaws in all the West."
I can't give this an explanation. Okay she lost someone but this is not gonna bring him back.
"You've robbed every bank from here to Houston."
That's what Trout Walker said to her when he caught her. Well, maybe she made this acts on a purpose but it didn't change anything. She left lots of victims including Stanley's great-grandfather and a bad name. In the end she was killed by a yellow spotted lizard and died all alone.

THE MYSTERY OF K.B.

From one page to one other page, after numerous holes finally Stanley found something interesting. A gold tube. Good progress. Now I'm only interested in this abbreviation "K.B." I think it is a name. I guess when I have some clues about it, I will find out all the secrets of the book. Actually I can't wait for long and I have reseasrched the previous pages. The only name I can find is Kate Barlow, the famous robber, who also robbed Stanley's great-grandfather. I have got some opinions what will happen next and I would like to share them. The author must tell about the beginning of the Kate Barlow's story and I think it starts at Green Lake. She might be one of the person who lived there but I can't find an explanation so far how she could be a robber. The other side of the story Stanley have some hesitations to give the golden tube to the X-Ray. X-Ray made himself clear that he is the boss around here and he deserves a day off.

"If you find something else, give it to me, okay?" "If anybody gets a day off, it should be me."

That's X-Ray's words. So Stanley has two options. He can give the golden tube to X-Ray. It doesn't mean just a day-off. If he do this, he will surrender himself to X-Ray. Stanley always tells everyone in wreck room that he doesn't want any trouble. The other choice is giving the tube to the Warden and take a stand against him. I actually don't think that Stanley will dare that, not now. But maybe some time he will be able to mess up with the gang. As the story develops, the mystery and my curiousity are growing.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS- LET'S DIG SOME HOLES

After calling of duty, I have started to write my first blog ever. I want to tell about my first impressions about the novel "Holes", written by Louis Sachar. I read the first ten chapters of the book and it didn't make me excited or suprised. It seems to be an ordinary teenage book unless someone is going to kill all the guards and survive from the middle of a desert. The main character of the book Stanley Yelnats is charged because of stealing a pair of a sneakers but not just  a pair of a sneakers. Cylde Livingston sneakers. I found sueing someone because he/she stole your shoes ridiculous. Actually the most interesting part so far is the story of no-good- dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. I couldn't believe he is blamed for everything for what happened to this family. His only fault was fallin in love with someone like Myra. The first victim of his curse is his son. Stanley's great-grandfather was robbed by Kate Barlow, a mysterious criminal. I am looking forward to find out about Kate Barlow's past, because I find it the most mysterious and excited part of the novel.

The gang at Camp Green Lake is pretty cool. They are good friends and they treat Stanley as well. They gave Stanley a nickname and that means that they accepted him to the gang. Now I am curious about what happens next. Will Stanley try to escape? How would it be more diificult to live at this camp? Is Kate Barlow the reason all of the holes or is it just the curse of great-great-grandfather? After how many holes will digging easier? I will find out and get to you back. Till that time take care and be careful. YOU DON'T WANNA BE BITTEN BY A YELLOW-SPOTTED LIZARD!
